Case study

Problem, approach, evidence.

1

Problem

Showing scattered public data sources (earthquakes, currency, crypto, weather, GitHub) live on a single screen without server cost.

2

Approach

A server-side proxy and cache for each source; periodic refresh on the client, numbers that change as they stream, and live points on the map sized by magnitude. If a source doesn't respond, the last known data is shown silently.

3

Evidence

Lighthouse 98 and 1.0 s LCP on desktop; layout shift 0.001. On mobile it is 69 because of the map; I'm working on improving that area.

Data sources

Five sources, five rhythms.

Architecture

Staying live without hitting limits.

Browser
card components, periodic refresh
02
API route
a separate proxy per source
03
Cache
server-side, short-lived
04
External APIs
keyless, free

↑ The browser never touches the external API; the rate-limit problem is solved here.

Evidence in numbers.
